On June 18, 2010, the FDA Advisory Committee on Reproductive Health voted UNANIMOUSLY AGAINST flibanserin, the brain drug proposed by German manufacturer Boehringer-Ingelheim to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
All of the speakers in the public part of the hearing who spoke against the drug were affiliated with the New View Campaign!! Our remarks focused on drug safety, legitimacy of the “hypoactive sexual desire disorder” diagnosis, the pre-launch marketing and medical education circus, and the need to situate women’s sexual desire in a broad psycho-sociocultural context respecting lifestage and cultural diversity. We brought a petiton signed by 650 people from 22 countries and 47 U.S. states, and Rachel Liebert twittered live from the hearing on the New View twitter page.
On our New View flibanserin page you can find our PETITION, our FINAL STATEMENT, all the FACT SHEETS and other resources.
